Van Ludwigs (ejl) plugins updated and added 04.12.2004

Sorry, it took quite long for the next addition. Unfortunately, real life has been quite time consuming and still is (hmmm unfortunately?). Well anyway, this time you find 6 updated plugins and 2 newly added ones from Ludwig van, who quitted programming for admin mod and made a lot for amxmod. Due to his anger in regard to the steam program he completely stopped programming and took his plugins from the internet. But he was so kind to give them to me. So, you can at least use his plugins. Thank you!

Half-Life 2 is out, where is Admin Mod for Source? 21.11.2004

As most of you will have noticed, Valve did finally release Half-Life 2. And some of you might habe noticed that the Steam Games window lists the SDK for the Source Engine, or might remember that Valve once said it would be released before/at the same time/shortly after HL2. "So", you might be asking, "where is Admin Mod for my CS:Source server then already?!"

Well, it ain't done yet. To be honest, we didn't even start writing it yet. That is because we still don't have the necessary information we need. So far only parts of the Source SDK have been released, which are those parts needed to build maps and models. But no source code is available and that is what we at Admin Mod live from. So you'll have to wait a little longer until the rest of the Source SDK, especially the sources, has been released. Which should be the case anytime now.

Even though, I'll still have to ask you to hold your horses. Valve said that the Source Engine will include something like Metamod in the future so that we will not need Metamod for Source servers to load plugins. Instead, the server has its own interface for that, the Source Engine Plugin Interface (SEPI). So we will need some time to see how that works and rewrite Admin Mod to be a SEPI plugin instead of a Metamod plugin.
Well, okay, that's maybe not the real reason. In reality we're still busy playing Half-Life 2. =)

Metamod 1.17.3 released 17.11.2004

Metamod version 1.17.3 has been released. You can grab it from the Metamod files page or from the Metamod homepage.

If you experienced trouble with Admin Mod 2.50.60 getting unloaded on the first mapchange for no apparent reason, then this Metamod update should fix your problem.

And another pack of plugins is added. You can get 10 new plugins and 2 updated ones. One of those updated, I got from Hunter, who still maintains his plugins as one should. :-) Thx guy. This one is already online for some days.

This time, the new plugins come mainly from Zero3Cool, from whom I got the allowance to get them from his website (http://www.zerosplugins.1go.dk).

Therefore a new category "statsme" had to be created.

Plugins from the LogD site 04.09.2004

This time it took a little bit longer than usually. Some personal reasons but also due to the ongoing outages of OzForces, so I cannot connect to the email account. You might have recognized that already, if you try to connect to our forums. So, I concentrated on websites, where the LogD site is the most important, I think.
Unfortunatly, a lot of the plugins there were outdated and lacked any description or readme. But I got through, and I hope that all of the 24 plugins are working as they are supposed. You can find them as usual in the new plugin section.
Furthermore, I had to move plugin_joe_awp to the outdated plugins. Maybe someone likes to get it working again. ;-)

Admin Mod 2.50.60 released. Now also for AMD64. 22.08.2004

We have released an update to Admin Mod, version 2.50.60. This one isn't packed with new features but mostly little changes and additions. We bring you three new scripting functions which might come in handy, cvar_exists(), get_timer() and valid_mapex(), and a math library of fixed point math functions like power, sqrt, exp, log, cos, etc. in math.inc. Two small exploits got fixed and the MySQL version has a new mysql_port cvar to specify the port of your MySQL server should it differ from default.

Thanks to Felix, the plugin_CS got an overhaul, so make sure you update your copy. It can now delete previously saved map and server defaults and has team- and playerspecific restrictions implemented. On the Windows side the new, improved installer is integrated which we already linked to in other news. Especially for you listenserver users is the possibility to use 127.0.0.1 as the loopback address in your users.ini file.

As the above doesn't amount to much, here is the real reason we didn't want to keep you longer from getting this new version: we are now AMD64 compatible. Yes, that's right. Admin Mod now has an AMD64 version for the growing number of Athlon64 and Opteron server owners. Note, that the binary format of the compiled Admin Mod scripts does also differ from the 32bit counterpart. That means that you will need to compile plugins for 64bit servers seperately. We provide a new compiler, sc64, for that purpose. But if you make use of the "compile" and "compile_all" scripts, you should not have to worry about that. By default these scripts will compile for the platform that they are run on. That means that if you run compile_all on a 32bit machine, you will get 32bit .amx files in the binaries directory. If you run it on an AMD64 Linux server, you get 64bit .amx64 files in the binaries directory.
But if you want to cross-compile, i.e. you want to compile plugins on a 32 bit machine (Linux or Windows) to use on a 64bit server, you will have to tell the compile_all script so. You do that by adding the -64 switch to the commandline to get 64bit binaries and the -32 switch to explicitely request 32bit binaries.

"Does Admin Mod work on CS:S? Will you make it work?" 21.08.2004

We've been asked numerous times now if Admin Mod works with Counter-Strike:Source and whether/when we will make it work if it doesn't. Answers below:

No, Admin Mod does not work with CS:Source. It cannot, because the HL2 engine, that CS:S is based on, too, is different from the old HL engine. You cannot simply push Metamod/Admin Mod on it and hope for it to work.

Whether we will create Admin Mod for the HL2 engine depends on demand. If nobody would use it there's no sense in wasting the time. If there is demand for Admin Mod on the HL2 engine (as the fact that we are being asked about it hints out) we will certainly look into porting Admin Mod to the new engine.

When that is going to happen cannot be answered by me at this time. Admin Mod depends on two things to happen before it can be ported to the HL2 engine. First, Valve needs to release the SDK for the HL2 engine. The SDK (Software Development Kit) defines the interface to the engine that all MODs and addons use to talk to the engine. Without it there is no interfacing with the engine (at least not in any sane way). Second, Metamod needs to be available for the HL2 engine since Admin Mod is a Metamod plugin. Right now nobody knows when either of those will happen. But don't expect anything before HL2 has been released.

Catching up with the email account, I added eight more plugins, today. See new plugins
  • plugin_stryker_botcon (FoxBot management)
  • plugin_alltalk (setting sv_alltalk)
  • plugin_theonemode (vote for "The One"-mode in "The Specialists")
  • plugin_wka_sharp_connect (greeting with hl speech)
  • plugin_akira_class (forcing players into classes in "TFC")
  • plugin_kwan_mapvote (plugin_hlds_mapvote replacement)
  • plugin_simple_time (time announcing (lean plugin_method_time))
  • plugin_userips (displaying players' ips)
Furthermore plugin_userinfo (tracking players) got an update.

Maybe one of those plugins is a long expected plugin, who knows...

AScript reworked 08.07.2004

AScript is back! Yes, one couldn't believe it.
As you might have already noticed, the plugin page has been rewritten. To give you a better overview, we categorized the plugins in regard to their functionality. Searching for a specific plugin should be much easier now. Thx to Da Rope for that!
But there is even more behind this new surface. Apart of the outdated, all plugins have been revised, so they compile on AM 2.50.59 without any problems. Some even got steam support. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to test the functionality. So, if you run into any problems, please post them in our forums. Furthermore, I added Bugblatter's and Cavey's famous plugins to the page.

Future plans:
  • Adding my own plugins ;-)
  • Adding those plugins from www.admin-mod.de. Mostly translation work.
  • Catching up with all those plugins on our email account. New submissions will be published before the old ones of course, so send in your plugins to ; they get priority.
  • Getting the plugins from other sites on the net. Since Ascript was not updated for quite a long time, plugin pages are quite spread over the net.
  • Searching through our forums.
It is a lot of work, I know. Please remember, that I do this stuff in my spare time and I don't have much. Therefore I would be pleased, if you could check our rules for submitting a plugin. This would help me a lot.

Preliminary version of updated Admin Mod Windows Installer 11.06.2004

For Admin Mod we provide you with a small script, called install_admin, that you can use to install Admin Mod for the various MODs that you want to use Admin Mod on. The Windows version (install_admin.vbs) will also handle the peculiarities of the Steam platform on Windows.

Given the dynamic nature of Steam, it can happen that the installer won't work in all cases. For example, the current installer still relies on Steam account names being valid email addresses since that is what they had to be in the past. Meanwhile Steam has changed and you don't have to use an email address for your account name anymore.

We have updated the Admin Mod Windows Installer to work with new Steam account names again. We have also made some other changes to the user interface to make the installation process easier for you.

In order to not have you wait until a new Admin Mod version comes out, you can now download the updated version seperately. Simply open the Zip archive and replace the install_admin.vbs in your "Adminmod" folder with the one in the Zip archive.

Metamod 1.17.1 released 10.06.2004

After a longer pause a new Metamod version has now been released: 1.17.1. For the most part this brings updated MOD support. Here is the changelog:

  • Additional entities for DoD 1.1, Sven Coop 3.0, Digital Paintball 2.1, The Specialits Beta 2.1, StargateTC Beta 1.1, International Soccer Online 3.0, Firearms 2.9
  • Added MOD recognition and entities for Hostile Intent 1.1, Natural Selection Beta 3.0, Rocket Crowbar 2, Counter-Strike:Condition Zero.
  • Added MOD recognition for CS13.
  • On Windows Steam servers, extract the gamedll file from the cache file if it is missing in the dlls directory.

#adminmod channel now on GameSurge 06.02.2004

GamesNet is dead, long live GameSurge!

The Admin Mod IRC support channel #adminmod was hosted on the GamesNet IRC network. A ligitation between the founder of GamesNet and the people who were actually running the network was now ended with a final settlement. As a consequence the IRC network cannot use the GamesNet name anymore. The former GN staff has moved the IRC network services to the new name GameSurge. This is where you will find the #adminmod channel, too.

You probably didn't even notice the change as the gamesnet.net IRC servers currently direct you to the gamesurge.net servers but since this is probably not going to be like that for long, better update your connection profiles.

Admin Mod 2.50.59 release 04.01.2004

We have released a new version of Admin Mod: 2.50.59. The main reason for this update were the crashes of Linux servers caused by a recent Steam update. The server engine interface was changed in a way making it incompatible with the one of 311x servers. Thus you will need binaries of Metamod and its plugins which are specially compiled for either a 311x (Non-Steam) or a 112x (Steam) server. The normal Admin Mod is targeted at Steam servers. If you run a 311x Linux server then you have to get replacement binaries for Admin Mod and Metamod which we provide on our downloads page.

In addition, this version does include some minor changes. We have fixed a bug causing kicks not being executed properly in some cases and have added a scripting function to display a MOTD window. A function which will be able to read the text for the MOTD window from a file will be available in the next release.

One more change should be interesting for users of a Steam Windows listenserver. With this version you are no longer required to provide a password for Admin Mod as the user who started the listenserver. Admin Mod will authenticate you automatically and grant you reserved slot and reserved nick access. For additional acces rights you still need to have to have an entry in the users.ini file with your nickname and your access rights. We recommend using a password for your entry in the users.ini file to keep others from gaining your access rights unrightfully. But you don't need to fiddle with any adminpass.cfg files anymore, Admin Mod will recognize you automatically. Just to make it clear again: this is only true for the user who started the Steam listenserver.

As the situation with Steam seems to have improved by now, you may have less problems with installing Admin Mod to a Steam server via the installer. Always make sure you have your server configured and running before attempting to install Admin Mod. But since some may still encounter problems caused by a missing liblist.gam file, I would like to point out again our information on installing Admin Mod on Steam.
